1.1 Purposes of practicum
Accordance with the objectives of the SEA Teacher Project, to provide opportunity for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia. During this program I was able to learn many things, especially regarding the art of teaching and also I could improve my ability in speaking English. Besides that, I also had the opportunity to learn about the culture of the country that I visited. I was placed in the Philippines, while in the Philippines I learned that people in the Philippines are very friendly and respect differences. They accepted me as another sister of race, ethnicity and religion, they loved me as much as their siblings.
1.2 Procedures of practicum
Practicum procedures at the Laboratory School there are 3 stages, namely observation in the classroom by observing the teacher who is teaching, after introducing students and in the second week we start teaching in class. During my teaching practice, my cooperating teacher always accompanied me behind the class with my colleague, Aisha Azalia.
1.3 Outcomes of practicum
During the sea teacher program at Tarlac Agricultural University I learned many things, especially regarding the art of teaching and about the curriculum in the Philippines which was very different from the curriculum in Indonesia. in laboratory school I have to study to manage students with 50 people, while in Indonesia in one class there are only 32 students. a little difficult indeed, but I really enjoyed it. I also learned to always prepare a backup plan before teaching, because when I first taught, I had to teach without electricity to turn on the LCD because there was an electrical line repair. From my supervisior and cooperating teacher, I learned to teach well and correctly through the advice given when observing me in class. In addition to learning about the art of teaching, there are many other things that I am gained during this program. we have to be able to find halal food for us to eat. We also learn about Filipino language, Filipino culture and many other things.
1.4 The challenges of practicum
The challenge that I felt during the program was language differences. when learning there are some of my students who don't understand English, besides our accent is different when speaking English. However, the Philippines is the third country that uses the most English, no wonder they can speak English fluently. In contrast to Indonesia, English is still something that is not familiar to the community. Especially the limitations of me who are not English students. Good English language skills are the main capital to see the world.
1.5 Overall impression
Tarlac Agricultural University is very good for us, they provide a comfortable place and always invite us to visit new places every weekend. The buddy who accompanied us while in the Philippines was also very kind and loved us all as well as their siblings. all Filipinos also received us well, residents around TAU always greeted and helped us to find halal food. I miss them so much and say that on another occasion I can return to the Philippines to meet them.
1.6 Suggestions for future improvement
As long as I joined the sea teacher program from SEAMEO I didn't feel there was a lack. SEAMEO always coordinates well and always gives guidance before we leave until we return home. I want to thank SEAMEO for putting me on TAU, There I found a new family that really loves me and I also love them. They provide wonderful memories and I highly recommend Tarlac Agricultural University as a good partner to cooperate in this program.
